Risk and Emergency Management

Risk and Emergency Management strives to make The Ohio State University a safe place for our students, staff, faculty and visitors to live, work, learn, play and visit. We systematically evaluate overall risk and implement strategies that involve physical security, policies, safety education, and safety and security assessments. In addition, we collaborate with university partners, professional organizations and government agencies to share our best practices and effectively use our resources.

Crime Prevention and Safety

Risk and Emergency Management works closely with the Department of Public Safety, Ohio State University Police Department and the Columbus Police Department to provide safety and security training programs.

Access and Keys

Risk and Emergency Management supports key and access requests for all facilities and departments within Student Life. We work with Facilities Operations and Development to implement key requests and maintain a comprehensive keying plan for Student Life facilities. We utilize electronic key cabinets, offline card readers and a master keying schematic to safely assign and secure keys. To submit a request for key or lock change please visit http://go.osu.edu/ekey.

Workplace Safety

Risk and Emergency Management strives to meet or exceed all workplace safety training and certifications. We partner with other university departments to develop comprehensive training for a variety of Student Life employees.

We ensure compliance with the Public Employment Risk Reduction Program (PERRP) Act to ensure public employees in Ohio have safe and healthy working conditions. In addition, we represent Student Life on the University Safety Committee, which addresses workplace safety issues and helps departments to comply with workplace safety regulations.
